Kohn Lipót (1862–1937) Kárpátalján, zsidó családban született. Szülei korai halála és magára maradása erősítették abban, hogy még jobban bízzon a Mindenhatóban. 
Rabbinak tanult, és a kárpátaljai haszid zsidók között kezdett el tevékenykedni. Rabbiként a Máramarossziget melletti falvakban szolgált. Annak a Salman Leib Teitelbaum rabbinak a szellemi vezetése alatt működött, akinek elődei és leszármazottai mintegy másfél évszázad óta vezetik a máramarosi (ma New York-i központú) szatmárinak nevezett haszid közösséget. 
A fiatal Kohn rabbit azonban harminc éves kora előtt komoly belső kételyek kezdik gyötörni. Kitartóan tanulmányozza a Talmudot és a Tanachot, kutatja a Prófétákat a Messiás ideje és az idők vége kapcsán. Isten Igéjének tiszta szelleme megragadja elméjét és szívét, és saját útjára lép. 
Kohn rabbi önéletrajza első kézből adja vissza kalandos és izgalmakkal teli lelki útját, kitartását és megpróbáltatásait. A rabbi felesége kapcsán írja, hogy: „holta után is beszél”. Bízunk abban, hogy a rabbi rég leírt szavai az Olvasónak is megelevenednek.
